The Environmental Study for the redevelopment of the Penteli area focuses on revitalizing a key site by balancing nature, community, and functionality through thoughtful design. The concept emphasizes integrating the natural environment with urban development by leveraging the area’s topography and ecological assets. The goal is to restore the reforested area, creating a recreational space that prioritizes the preservation and enhancement of natural vegetation, while safeguarding against wildfires and floods.
The design incorporates gentle interventions to improve accessibility, creating safe and welcoming spaces for users of all age groups, including those with disabilities. A key objective is also to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, with forests playing a crucial role in CO2 absorption. New plants were selected to enhance the Mediterranean landscape, using species that complement the environment and support regional biodiversity.
The proposal includes two main planting zones (A and B) aimed at restoring and enhancing local flora, contributing to sustainability and biodiversity. Pathways and wooden walkways encourage exploration, while strategically placed viewpoints and rest areas offer stunning views. Urban recreational spaces provide social hubs, and parking facilities are distributed to maintain accessibility without harming the natural surroundings.
